1. The Ancient Pyramids of Egypt.
There are a number of ancient pyramids near Cairo that provide a great example of early Egyptian architecture. The Great Pyramid, Pyramid of Djoser, Giza Plateau and the Red Pyramid at Dashur, all give scenic and historical portraits of the ancient world during the time of the Pharoahs.
Standing next to the Great Pyramid, the Sphinx is another example of early Egyptian construction within just a few miles drive from the city of Cairo. The valleys around Cairo include more than 100 pyramids of various sizes that will provide you with plenty of opportunities for exploring.
2. Old Cairo.
The Old city of Cairo is located just outside of modern-day Cairo and is an excellent example of medieval life in Egypt. Going back to the 10th Century A.D., some believe that the city may even go back to an Egyptian settlement as early as the 6th century A.D.
The Egyptian culture is known to have existed all the way back to the early days of civilization. The old city of Cairo includes the Coptic Museum with artifacts of Early Egypt as well as the architecture of Egypt during the medieval times.
3. Abdeen Palace.
Located inside the new city of Cairo, Abdeen Palace was constructed during the middle of the 19th Century as the Royal Residence of the Egyptian Monarchy. The Palace was the centerpiece of the Cairo and included more than 500 individual rooms. Abdeen Palace became the Presidential Palace during the administration of President Hosni Mubarek in 1952.
